Are Jamaica Resorts Safe? A Quick 2024 Guide

Is Jamaica Safe? I recently went on a trip to Jamaica and the most asked question I received was, “did you feel safe?” The answer is YES. Personally, I felt safe. However, you should always exercise increased caution when traveling, especially when traveling outside of the country. Additionally, it’s imperative to do your own research. According to travel.state.gov Jamaica has a level 3 travel advisory, which means to reconsider travel. Now, I’m not recommending that anyone ignore the travel advisory. It is there to keep you safe. But if you are going to travel anyway, please read the government website as it has valuable information on which areas to avoid, as well as things to look out for. Here are a few safety tips that I recommend and always follow.

Safety Tips: 1. Try your best to blend in. For me, this means not bringing expensive clothes, jewelry, handbags or sneakers on vacation. I never bring anything that I wouldn’t want to get lost or stolen.

2. Do not carry large amounts of money on you. I always keep smaller bills separate from the rest of my money so that it’s easier to give someone a tip without pulling out the larger bills.

3. Always pay attention to your surroundings. Act like you belong there and like you know where you are going.

4. Always cooperate with officials. I actually got stopped by the police while in the car in Jamaica. In my experience, as long as you cooperate and are polite, you will be on your way in no time.

5. Do not walk around with your phone out. This one is a little bit difficult because you want to take photos, but if you’re out on the street, I would try to keep your phone out of sight as to not bring attention to yourself.

Again, there are the things I personally do to keep safe when traveling. Now that we got that out of the way, let’s get into some fun details of the trip starting with some easy outfits.

What I wore: In December, the temperatures were mostly in the mid 80s during the day, and slightly cooler at night. It felt warm in the day, but not too hot which was amazing. My staple outfit these days are denim bottoms and a crop top of sorts, but I also love to wear dresses for dinner. Pro Tip: I highly recommend bringing water shoes on your trip to Jamaica. My husband and I both ended up wearing ours quite a bit!

This dress is from Amazon. It’s very similar to a dress from Skims, and has that nice stretchy material that is super flattering!

I’m wearing a tube top which can be worn as a shirt or a bathing suit top. This skirt actually came in a bathing suit set. also from Amazon.

Her’s my signature outfit that I mentioned earlier in the post. The shorts are old Abercrombie. The top is old Aerie, but here is a similar one.

Favorite places to eat: One of the many reasons why people love visiting Jamaica is for the authentic food! I stayed in the Ocho Rios and Montego Bay areas and tried multiple restaurants. Some of my favorites were The Courthouse Gallery and Cafe, Margaritaville and Pier One. The food and service were always excellent.

Beaches: Now, I can’t write a blogpost about Jamaica without including the best part, THE BEACHES! One of the best beaches in Jamaica is Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay. Now, you do need to pay to get on this beach but trust me it’s totally worth it. The beach is absolutely stunning and the waves were almost nonexistant making it very easy to swim and relax! There are also a ton of eateries nearby.
